Christmas 2019

We have about 20,000 LEDs this year!

Major elements:
Multi-color LED Strings (~20,000 LEDs): While the majority are wide-angle LEDs as of this year I could not find ANY in stores. This means that any additions are going to be different types. It also means that as strings start to fail entirely and cannot be repaired I am going to be focusing the wide angle remainders on the house first.

Santa's Highlight Walls: These two walls on either side of the "Santa Reading to Reindeer" inflatable were MEANT to be an igloo made of milk jugs. Unfortunately that did not work out, but they still looked neat enough that we put them outside and were going to use them for snowball fights. Then Santa needed a better spot and with some small spotlights on them we think it turned out pretty well.

Campfire: Under our large pine tree you can find three little inflatables (Hello Kitty, Chipmunk, and the new Husky) keeping warm at a small pile of "coals" (something I have been using for Halloween for years). Not sure how well it will turn out with snow on it (ruins the effect a bit) but even a little showing helps.

Peppermint Stick: This is a 2" PVC pole about 8 feet tall overall wrapped in red ribbon to make a peppermint stick. It is meant to look similar to the candy cane that the new Dogs inflatable appears to be holding...

NOEL: DIY project consisting of 1/2" PVC letters that are positioned on our trellis. Each letter is 5ft tall and 3ft wide and is internally lit by a strip of RGB LED lights. They are all set to fade and slowly change colors which turns out to be pretty decent looking, but they could be set to do other things.

Inflatables: This year saw a couple additions to the inflatables list already. We are up to 15 inflatables this year. In all there are:
  • Santa in a Camper
  • (Affectionately known as the "chucking Santa").
  • Gingerbread House
  • Penguins Mailing Letters
  • Tree Farm Truck
  • Santa Reading to Reindeer
  • Hot Cocoa
  • Polar Bears Sledding
  • Hello Kitty
  • Chipmunk
  • Polar Bear Standing
  • Elves and Santa Climbing a Ladder
  • 2 Christmas Trees
  • Dogs Holding a Candy Cane
  • Husky Sitting

Tree Farm: The tree farm has moved to the corner of the property this year with the addition of two new post holes to hold up the arch. I made 8 small Christmas trees using tomato cages wrapped in garland and rope lights. We then added some inflatables to the mix and put it behind our big archway with a wreath at the top.

Really Big Lights: The RBLs have gotten a more stable home at the porch now. For more information on them, check out their project page from 2017.
